The chief executive officer of Bayer plc Martin Dawkins, who has also been appointed as the country division head of Bayer Schering Pharma in the UK and Ireland
The chief executive officer of Newbury-based Bayer has taken on an additional role in the business.
Martin Dawkins, aged 48, has been appointed as the country division head of Bayer Schering Pharma, which is the pharmaceutical division of the company.
Two years ago the company bought the Berlin-based company Schering for 16.5 billion euros.
Since 2006 Mr Dawkins has been responsible for moving Schering’s operations from West Sussex to Bayer’s base in Strawberry Hill.
The company now ranks among the top ten global pharmaceutical companies.
Bayer recently announced a 2.8 billion euro budget for research and development for the next financial year.
The company employs 394 people in the UK and Ireland and had total sales of £214 million in 2007.
Mr Dawkins said: “We managed to rapidly integrate Schering into the rest of the company, and the company is now positioned as a major company in the region, with market leading products and sound marketing strategies that will increase the value of the company.
“Having overseen the integration side of the business, I am now excited at this hands-on opportunity to make what is already a good company into a great one.”
Mr Dawkins first joined Bayer in 1986 and he has worked in North America, Japan and Denmark.
He has also served at Bayer’s main headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany.
