SCOTTISH and Southern Energy (SSE) is looking for bright sparks from Berkshire to join its apprentice scheme which will take on more than 100 new recruits in the south this year.

SCOTTISH and Southern Energy (SSE) is looking for bright sparks from Berkshire to join its apprentice scheme which will take on more than 100 new recruits in the south this year.
The announcement coincides with the launch of Apprenticeship Week which ran last week.
SSE’s industry-renowned scheme gives people the chance to achieve qualifications at the same time as gaining practical, hands-on work experience at one of the UK’s largest energy companies.  People have until the end of February to apply.
More than 100 applicants are now being sought for the 2010 scheme to fill vacancies across central southern England, including:
n Southern Electric Power Distribution’s Theale (Reading) and Slough depots
n Southern Electric Home Services’ Slough office
n Southern Electric Contracting in the Thatcham/Newbury, Reading, Slough and Aldermaston areas
Ryan Sadler, the group training manager for Scottish and Southern Energy, said: “Our apprentice scheme is an investment for our future.  Many of our senior staff began their careers as apprentices, and have enjoyed significant development opportunities from the moment they joined the company.
“A whole new world can be opened up for apprentices. They get a profession, training and the opportunity to progress their career within a major UK company.”
Apprentices spend between three and four years training, combining work placements with formal study for a range of professional qualifications. On offer are Electrical, Gas and Mechanical Advanced Apprenticeships as well as Electrical, Mechanical and Control and Instrumentation Apprenticeships. No experience is required, but candidates must have, or expect to achieve, four GCSE / Standard Grade passes (C / 3 or above), to include maths, English and a science or craft subject.
During training, apprentices can expect a salary of between £8,006-£17,382 per annum. As an industry leader SSE also provides excellent benefits along with the satisfaction of knowing you are making a difference in today's energy industry.
The closing date for applications is February 28. All apprenticeships will start in August 2010. Anyone interested in applying should visit www.sse-apprentices.co.uk
Apprenticeship Week, run by the National Apprenticeship Service, aims to raise the profile of apprenticeships amongst employers, learners, parents and other stakeholders.
