NEWBURY company Cyphermet has recently been acquired by CY Sheet Metal Ltd, the former having been in administration.
CY Sheet Metal Ltd will continue to use Cyphermet as a trading name.
Cyphermet is a sheet metal and CNC machining business, which manufactures mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass, plastic components, and assemblies.
The new management team under the direction and guidance of the managing director, Ian Passey enlisted IMSM’s help in order to gain the highly respected ISO 9001 certification.  This is part of its overall business plan to ascertain their goal as a highly respected and quality driven global supplier.
ISO 9001 is highly relevant to Cyphermet and is a standard requirement for many of its customers, including firms in the broadcast, food, medical, communication, aerospace, waste management and engineering industries.
Registration has already given  increased control over the company and the ability to set targets and goals as to where they are going in the current
climate.  Several anomalies were immediately picked up through the system, instantly helping them to increase efficiency and quality.  However, they feel that the real benefits of certification are yet to come.
Cyphermet was slightly apprehensive that the ISO 9001 would not be a rigorous enough quality standard to satisfy its needs.  However, IMSM’s experienced auditors soon overcame these concerns.  Using their expertise they explained the relevance and stringency of the ISO 9001 standard.  Cyphermet was very impressed with IMSM’s level of knowledge, experience, and the general pointers they gave for running a more profitable and efficient business.
Mike Sampson, Cyphermet’s group guality assurance manager, said: “We would definitely recommend IMSM to other businesses.  In the past I have always worked with German quality systems and was slightly concerned that the 9001 would not be as effective as VDA.
“IMSM’s auditors overcame these apprehensions at our first meeting.  We have already noticed several immediate benefits but more importantly feel it has given us a really sound footing for future growth.  Once we have properly shaken this down in Cyphermet it is our intention that in 2010, together with IMSM, we shall roll this out to the other companies within the group.”
