Lacrosse team has Gardner Leader to thank for smart kit
Three girls’ lacrosse teams from St Bartholomew’s School, Newbury, will be touring in style next month after receiving a new set of polo shirts, thanks to local solicitors Gardner Leader. St Bart’s is one of the only comprehensive schools in the UK to compete at lacrosse, a sport dominated by private schools, and so the girls are always keen to make a good impression both on and off the pitch. The new polo shirts, provided for the whole squad by Gardner Leader and the girls’ parents, will help to ensure that the team is well-presented when it goes on tour to Yorkshire next month. The teams from Years seven, eight and nine will be travelling north following successful seasons. After playing matches nearly every Saturday since September the Year sevens were runners-up in the Junior West B-League Tournament, Year eight were last year’s B league champions and this year finished 3rd in the A League and Year nine finished third in their B-League. The girls have been training hard twice a week all year and are now looking forward to facing new competition. Commenting on Gardner Leader’s recent donation, director of sport at St Bart’s, Miss Ostinelli, commented: “It is great to see a local firm supporting sport at this level and we are very grateful to Gardner Leader for its generous donation. The girls will look really smart and I am sure they will do us proud representing the school across the country.”Seona Myerscough, family partner at Gardner Leader said: “The girls of the St Bartholomew’s School lacrosse team are a real inspiration, taking on and beating the competition despite having only started in Year 7, when the other schools have often had girls playing from a much younger age. This is as a result of their efforts and an excellent training programme devised by the coaching staff.
"Gardner Leader is delighted to support the teams as they continue to enjoy their chosen sport and hope that they will go on to achieve even greater success over the next 12 months.”
