Sir George Young, the MP for North West Hampshire, has opened a new high tech facility in Aldermaston that will enable local wireless specialist company Wood & Douglas to triple its manufacturing capability.
Wood & Douglas, headquartered in Baughurst, has invested almost £1m to develop the new technology centre to service increased demand from its customers both in the UK and abroad. The company designs and manufactures all of its products in the UK and employs more than 65 specialist staff at four locations in the South of England.
Alan Wood, the managing director and joint founder of Wood & Douglas, said: “Since 1977 Wood & Douglas has grown at a sustainable rate, building a global reputation for delivering highly reliable and effective wireless products and services for our customers. Growth of 25 per cent in our last financial year has facilitated this investment and the opening of this surface mount technology centre marks the start of a new era, enabling the company to significantly increase production in the area.”
Sir George Young said: “The opening of this new high technology centre is evidence that specialist manufacturing is alive and well in the UK. Wood & Douglas’ success demonstrates that focussed British manufacturers can build and grow, even in an uncertain economic environment and I was delighted to open this new facility.”
With customers in emergency services, exploration, health, homeland security, transportation and utilities, Wood & Douglas has annual revenues of more than £6m. The company exports around 40 per cent of its production across the world.
“The opening of this new technology centre demonstrates Wood & Douglas’ commitment to the local area. The companies first premises was in Youngs Industrial Estate so this is a perfect place to develop the business further and look forward to the continued growth of manufacturing in the area,” continued Mr Wood.
