Two members of the ‘BayerPlus’ Ultimate Challenge team have completed the second of five Olympic sports in a bid to raise £4,000 for charity.
Nicole Farmer and Darren Broad took part in a 100-mile cycle from Bath to London and finished it in just over five and a half hours.
This challenge is the second of five events the team is doing to raise money for the Rarer Cancers Foundation, established to ensure that people with rarer cancers have access to the best services and outcomes.
BayerPlus is made up of six members who are located in Newbury and who are committed to finishing all of the events within 12 months.
The 100 mile cycle comes just a fortnight after competing in an Olympic distance triathlon in Swanage.
Nicole Farmer, Bayer’s business head for imaging and oncology, said: “The hardest part of the ride was resisting all the cake provided at the lunch stop, and the best bit was definitely crossing the finish line after just over five-and-a-half hours of cycling.
“The Rarer Cancers Foundation has achieved some quite amazing things, especially lobbying to establish the Cancer Drug Fund for the UK. It was great to be able to take on this challenge to raise money so they can continue their work.”
The next challenge for the team will be learning how to canoe, so they can tackle their third event, the Devizes to Westminster four-day canoe race next Easter.
