Bayer went blue for a day when it hosted a cancer awareness day for employees.
The theme of the day, run in conjunction with the Men’s Health Forum, Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust, and Cancer Research UK was ‘blue’ to tie in with the Blue September campaign being run by the Men’s Health Forum, which aims to raise awareness of cancer in men.
Bayer employees were joined by the mayor and mayoress of Newbury, Jeff and Alma Beck, and the chairman of West Berkshire Council, Peter Argyle, who dropped by for a slice of blue cake and tea.
The mayor, mayoress and Mr Argyle all wore something blue for the occasion. “It’s an important topic for all men, and therefore good to raise awareness.” said Mr Beck.
Professor Alan White, the chairman of the Men’s Health Forum, said: “Linking with Blue September is an important awareness and fund-raising opportunity for the Men’s Health Forum. We are dealing with every aspect of mens health, and we are fighting to make people realise that mens health is important.”
Employees were encouraged to make donations throughout the day in return for a piece of cake or a blue Cancer Aware wrist band. The donation boxes will remain at Bayer House until the end of September when the amount raised will be tallied.
The Blue September campaign has support from leading sports figures, opinion leaders and actors, and runs throughout the month.
