Route 32 changes for transport company
16th May 2008
The bus operator say the changes will certainly improve the service between Newbury and Kingsclere and speed up travel for people going further afield between Newbury, the North Hampshire Hospital and Basingstoke.
The changes will also enable the use of double deck buses which are needed on the 32 route at peak times.
But the 32 will no longer continue serving Bishops Green. The bus operator is withdrawing from the small estate which is poorly supporting the present diversion of the 32.
The houses in the hamlet of Bishops Green were built for American airmen based at Greenham Common.
However, Newbury Buses say the 32 is not carrying sufficient passengers to and from the estate to justify continuance in its present form and it will cease from next week (Monday, May 19).
Said Newbury Buses manager Russell Barrington-Crow: "The diversion prevents the use of double deck buses which are needed on the 32 route at peak times.
"The diversion is also a disadvantage to through passengers who are the majority of people on the bus. They will benefit from more direct buses in future.
"From May 19 Bishops Green will have an off-peak service between 10.00 am and 2.30 pm which will be provided by another operator," he added.
