TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS with Sgt Lee Frost

Hello and welcome to this month’s update. I have had a busy month since returning from my holiday in Spain.
As soon as I returned, I was back to the busy day-to-day job as response sergeant, and had to deal with three burglaries on the September 13, two in Newbury and one in Thatcham, where the offenders had distracted the occupant by knocking on their door and informing the residents that their son had broken a window, or drainpipe, and offering to pay for the damage. These offences happened between 7.30am and and 9am.
While this was happening, another offender was gaining access to the house and stealing items. We believe that the three burglaries were committed by the same people, and if you ever experience a similar thing, politely decline their offer, ring the police immediately, and check your house thoroughly. These offenders target the vulnerable, and it is imperative that the community is aware and we all look out for each other.
On a more cheerful note, I have been in town on a recent Friday and Saturday night, and it has been a pleasant surprise to see how good-natured and trouble-free the town centre has been. Newbury police station has been increasing the number of officers patrolling on foot in the town centre to make sure we keep the streets trouble free and make you, the public, feel safer.
Businesses in Newbury are now gearing up for the busy Christmas period, and already I have seen some stores with Christmas related items for sale. As the town gets busier, I would ask everyone to keep their valuables hidden, and not on show, and when parking their vehicle, ensure all valuables are locked away, preferably in the boot of the car.
Stay safe, and I can be contacted at lee.frost@thamesvalley.pnn. police.uk
