MORE and more customers, whether in business or homeowners, are looking for assurances that as much of their waste as possible will be recycled. These environmental concerns are one of the reasons that skip hire company Aasvogel has built up a loyal clientele and continues to add new customers almost daily.
Jackie McDowell from Aasvogel explained: “We celebrate our 10th anniversary this year and have always prided ourselves on the high level of customer service we offer. However environmental concerns are increasingly of paramount importance to our customers. It is a comfort therefore to our customers to know that we are licensed and inspected by the Environment Agency.
“In our industry you have to submit quarterly returns to the Environment Agency and our most recent return showed we recycled 86 per cent. Only 14 per cent is sent to landfill and we work hard to achieve that rate.
“When skips arrive back at our depot everything is thoroughly sorted to maximise the amount of materials recycled. With aggregates, we sort through the hardcore and break it down into material that can be reused as infill on construction projects. Wood is separated and goes for specialist recycling and all metals are sorted into different groups and the green waste goes for recycling. We are continuously striving to find new recycling opportunities for the waste that we currently have to landfill.”
The company delivers and collects skips within a 25 mile radius of its recycling depot near Wantage and has clients throughout West Berkshire, including, Pangbourne, Thatcham, Newbury and Hungerford and into north Hampshire too.
Its modern fleet, which naturally runs on CO2 neutral biodiesel, can deliver a range of different sized skips and specialist receptacles. The fleet includes specialist vehicles that use extendible arms to deliver skips into awkward spots and over fences or hedges. This has helped attract many customers, particularly householders who have previously been unable to hire skips.
“We aim to provide a next day service,” explained Jackie McDowell. “Similarly we will always collect a skip promptly and to suit the client. We are able to talk to our drivers via radio and they can contact one another too. It means that problems are often sorted without vehicles having to necessarily return to the depot with obvious environmental and customer service benefits.”
Tony Slattery of A Slattery Builders, Newbury, said: “We are happy with the service we get from Aasvogel and find their drivers very helpful. I also have peace of mind that our building waste is being sorted and recycled where possible.”
