At the Sterling Garage, owner David Withers knew exactly what has been keeping his team busy over and above the normal servicing, repairs and MOTs: timing belts, which when they go wrong can prove very costly.
He explained: “We are getting more and more cars towed to us with problems with their timing belts. If that breaks you are looking at rebuilding the cylinder head at a cost of £1,000 to £1,300, so it certainly pays to get it checked. Both Volkswagen and Audi have reduced to 40,000 miles the service when the belt will be checked, so it is not just us saying it.”
The garage, which offers full MOTs, service and repairs, handles both private and corporate customers, offering a full collect and deliver service for its commercial clients.
Founded in 1982 and having been on the estate since 1986, the Sterling Garage is one of the longest established businesses on the estate and one of the few that owns its freehold.
