Jack Frost will soon be nipping at your toes, but if you want to stay sure-footed on an icy path or stop a car from slip sliding away in snow then you will need salt – and the right kind too. Thankfully Newbury Tools has ample supplies for the winter.
Martin Neal, who runs the business with his son Simon, explained: “We have a full range of salts for dealing with the bad weather including the normal rock salt for use on drives etc this has grit in it for maximum grip.
“We also offer de-icing salt, which has been processed to remove some of the impurities, and clears ice and snow in the same way, but as the salt dissolves it does not leave the messy grit which can be trampled onto floor coverings. It was tremendously popular last year and is already in demand this year in anticipation of the icy weather. For areas which are even more delicate, such as natural stone we offer tubs of even finer salt.”
Both rock salt and de-icing salt are available in 25kg bags and can also be sold by the pallet. The tubs are sold in 12kg units and all three are priced as follows:
Rock salt 25kg £5.56
De-icing salt 25kg £5.99
Salt tubs 12kg £11.94
Of course, not all salt is destined to melt ice and Newbury Tools also provide dishwasher and water softener salt in tablet, granular and  block form, with prices as follows:

Tablets 10/25kg £4.36/£7.70
Granular 10/25kg £4.25/£7.50
Block salt 8kg  £4.25

Newbury Tools is also renowned for providing first class tools and advice for trades and those doing DIY, as Mr Neal explained: “We have always prided ourselves on being able to help people find the right tools and equipment and we are continually updating our range to keep pace with the demand for the latest equipment.
“It is also about customer service and I am proud that the team we have at Newbury Tools are very knowledgeable and understand the products that we sell and offer for hire. Many of our customers will already know what they need, but others appreciate the help we can offer.”
The spacious store is easy to find in Hambridge Road, opposite the Old London Apprentice pub, and has ample free parking outside.
