The myriad regulations covering how and what businesses recycle can be baffling. Thankfully, Newbury is home to Environmental Solutions, one of the region’s leading waste management and recycling companies.
Specialising in IT recycling, confidential shredding and media destruction, Environmental Solutions Waste Management is increasingly the first choice for businesses who take their responsibility to recycle seriously.  It has more than 150 clients, ranging from solicitors and accountants to schools and pharmaceuticals, as well as sole traders through to national organisations.
The company, which is based in three units on New Greenham Park, is a family business, run by husband and wife team Gareth and Fiona Ward, that has doubled in size each of the last three years.
The business had humble beginnings, as Gareth Ward explained: “I was already in recycling, specialising in shredding. I was constantly getting asked ‘can you do cardboard?’ and ‘can you do IT?’  It wasn’t something that firm wanted to do, so I ran a small business from home managed by my father that grew over the first three years and then we launched the business properly in October 2008.
“We’ve always put customer service at the forefront of our approach to business and strive to explain the best recycling solution for our customers. We provide detailed reports in an effort for continual improvement.”
“We also provide complete audit trails with flow charts showing for example, how confidential waste is collected from our clients to our Ministry of Defence approved shredder through to recycle, which is important.”
“We do not pigeonhole our clients and never assume we know what they need until we have explored and understood their business. To increase security we do not have a minimum             collection policy, that is to say if you only have one bag for shredding we will collect it on a regular route meaning that you don’t need to store multiple bags of unshredded documents.”
While there are other companies which will collect your waste paper, confidential or otherwise, how many offer a charity rebate scheme based on the current value of waste paper? Environmental Solutions does and after piloting a scheme with solicitors Thomas Eggar LLP the rebate is something all clients would enjoy.
“When we started the business we handled such small quantities of waste paper that we couldn’t get any value back on it so it had never been part of our business model,” said Gareth Ward. “However, we handle modest volumes now and to a firm like Thomas Eggar it has generated up to £15 per week to be donated to local charities. Giving back this rebate is just part of what makes our approach to recycling unique.
“We are competitive with the larger recycling companies in the market place on price. However, we truly excel on being small and reactive enough to respond to our clients’ needs. They also know that they will be speaking to one of the team here in Newbury, not a distant call centre.”
Clearly, choosing a local company is green-minded, but it makes business sense too with the kind of delivery offered by Environmental Solutions. Find out today how they can help.
