Business Profile

 REED

After 22 years in Newbury, REED has a formidable reputation for finding the right office support staff and recently expanded to offer HR, technical, insurance and sales and marketing roles.
The company, which while boasting the biggest job website in the UK, is keenly focused on encouraging their teams to work locally and indeed they all live locally too and understand the local business community and its employment requirements.
Business manager James Sharpe recently returned to the Newbury branch. He originally started in Newbury branch five years ago as a consultant, then moved to work for REED in London. After three years he has come back as the business manager.
He said “After working for REED in London, it’s nice to come back to Newbury and re-establish contact with all of my old clients and candidates. I am looking forward to managing a strong team, building relationships with new clients and managing a branch that has a truly local focus.”
That local approach is something which senior permanents consultant Nikki Cameron has been familiar with since joining the branch in 2008, and she says that it is vital to building customer relationships.
She explained: “People think REED is a big nationwide organisation and they are right. However, we have autonomy and create bespoke agreements for our clients and provide local solutions. All the time though we are able to rely on that national business if we need to go further afield to find the right candidate.”
The number two top temporaries consultant in the south, Jessica Smith, has been with REED since March last year and explained how she has achieved that accolade: “I pride myself on building relationships with our clients and finding them the right candidates for temporary appointments and supporting them as they build their businesses, often moving towards permanent placements.”
Nicola Cram is the senior temporaries consultant and has been part of the team at REED in Newbury for five years and has previously worked in recruitment in London. She explained: “One of our greatest strengths is www.reed.co.uk, this website has the biggest supply of candidates in the UK and some of those are exclusively registered with REED and that is important when it comes to finding the right people for our clients.”
The newest member of the team is permanents consultant Phil Courtney, who has been with REED for two-and-a-half-months and was actually recruited after going to REED looking for a job.
“I used to work as a tree surgeon. This meant I dealt with a whole range of clients which has prepared me well,” he said.
“Similarly, working in the warehouse sector has given me insight there too. It is not just about using this experience to help clients, but also to ensure we find the right people for the roles.”
Last but no means least is Reena Nijja, a university graduate who has joined REED as an intern to gain valuable work experience within a busy office and may even find the right job being so close to the heart of a busy recruitment office.
She said: “I have been here three weeks and the team are very professional and work very hard to find the right candidates, are friendly and really care. It is a good insight.”
Whether temporary or permanent, REED has a proven track record in finding the right people for the right jobs and provides should be a consideration for any business looking for staff.
