Business Profile

Brading Cryer, Chartered Accountants, have been in Hungerford for more than 50 years and until recently occupied offices in the High Street.
The old building was listed, enjoyed commoner’s rights to fish the river and graze cattle on the common and had a magnificent facade, so what caused them to move to modern premises on the edge of Charnham Business Park?
Alan Gibson, the firm’s owner since 2009, said: “The old building conveyed the long established and conventional image that an accountancy practice might seek and it had character, but we felt that our reputation was well established what we really wanted was a modern look and feel and the efficiency of open plan offices.
"The practice has been expanding and new premises were essential to continue to grow the business, ensuring that we had lower overheads from better space utilisation that you can only get in a modern building.”
With 13 staff and consultants, they have recruited to facilitate growth in the business.
Their client base is Hungerford and the surrounds, as well as throughout Berkshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire.
What had led to the growth? “We know we are competitive both in price and service levels,” said Mr Gibson.
“We have modernised our systems and processes so that we complete assignments quickly and well ahead of tax deadlines, and of course everyone wants the lowest tax bill by getting the right advice at the right time.
“We know that clients really want excellent value for money, so we are increasingly offering fixed fees that include ad hoc advice at no extra charge. We get most of our business by word of mouth and nothing speaks more highly of our services than a client recommending us.”
