There can surely be few venues in West Berkshire offering the majesty and history of the Council Chamber in Newbury Town Hall.
This has been the seat of local government for more than 100 years and today it offers local businesses a venue with real character.
The Town Hall is home to Newbury Town Council, which holds its meetings in the historic building, normally on a Monday evening, which leaves the rest of the week free for use by local businesses, charities and the local community.
This is a venue with gravitas that a modern hotel cannot compete with and anyone meeting here cannot fail to be inspired by the weight of history and dedication of public service has represented since it was built in 1871.
The chamber can hold 60 people theatre-style, and the friendly team at the Town Hall will set up the room to suit the booking requirements.
A screen, projector and laptop are also available for presentations and are included in the room hire as is wi-fi, making it possible to connect to the internet.
A second room, more suitable for a meeting or training session with a dozen people is also available for hire either independently or in combination with the main chamber and makes an excellent break-out facility.
There is a fully-equipped kitchen adjacent to the chamber which can host your chosen caterers or is somewhere for prepared food until served with crockery and glassware also available for your use.
Already a host of local businesses use the Town Hall for meetings, presentations, training and product launches and it is also popular with local charities and it regularly hosts coffee mornings.
Its central location, not to mention the magnificence of the mighty civic doors that open into the Market Place, make this an attractive venue both for the business aiming to impress, or simply looking for somewhere affordable and convenient, with ample town centre parking nearby and building which is truly at the heart of the town.
One organisation making excellent use of the facilities is Career Springboard, and chairman George Athon explained why they host events at the Town Hall. He said: “We have used the facilities at the Town Hall for over three years now. It has everything we require to ensure that our clients feel comfortable in their environment.  The Town Hall itself is accessible and recognisable, which means our clients have no trouble in finding it.  Being wheelchair bound myself, I know that access can sometimes cause problems but not so at the Town Hall as there is a lift to all floors, including the toilets.  Town Hall staff are always cheerful and nothing is too much trouble for them, and I would therefore recommend the Town Hall Chamber for all your meeting requirements.”
While it is easy to see how the Town Hall means business, it can also mean fun too, and regularly plays host to wedding receptions – the sweeping staircase is ideal for photographs – birthday parties and other celebrations that demand that little bit extra from a venue.
Office administrator Sue Page explained: “It is important to us that the Town Hall is available to everybody, and we want people to realise that. It is not just for local government. This is a facility for local people: the business community, charities – everyone.
“This is the reason our prices are so competitive. To hire the Council Chamber is only £31 an hour during the week, and a little more at weekends and it is only £17 an hour for charities. Similarly, the smaller room is only £21 an hour during the week and £11 an hour to charities.”
The next time an organisation needs to make an impact with an event, they should certainly give serious consideration to Newbury Town Hall.
