Kingfisher Court is home to the operations centre for West Berkshire’s largest taxi company and Cabco, which is a  co-operative, is growing larger still through groundbreaking innovation that puts the customer first.
Director Kevin Archibald explained how much busier Cabco had become since it invested £80,000 in a computer system 18 months ago. It routes the nearest taxi to each customer, offers drivers GPS directions and has reduced waiting times, even at peak hours.
With a ring back service also calling the customer’s mobile to alert them when the taxi arrives, customers have been telephoning its distinctive (01635) 33333 hotline in ever greater numbers.
Kevin explained: “It really has increased our efficiency and we’ve seen business increase month on month. In 2007, we completed 287,135 taxi journeys. We constantly look for ways to improve further and we recently introduced chip-and-pin terminals in all our cars and e-bookings allow our account and corporate clients to log into our system and book a taxi directly, without speaking to an operator. This has been very popular, especially with hotels, which can book a car without picking up the phone.”
