Taylor's of Newbury: Used-car dealer geared to fulfilling wishes
13th March 2008
TAYLOR'S of Newbury has become recognised as the foremost used car dealership in West Berkshire, offering first-class customer service and a comprehensive range of quality vehicles from its prominent location along the A4 at Speen.
Having the showroom along the A4 draws many customers to Taylor’s of Newbury, as passing motorists spot gleaming models at sparkling prices.
Duncan Taylor said: “The showroom models do sell very quickly. When a car disappears from our showroom, it almost certainly means it has been sold.
“Thankfully, someone who arrives too late is rarely disappointed because while there are only ever three or four cars in the showroom, they are part of an average of 45 cars we have here on site and we have a good turnover, too, and with so many cars being sold each month it means there is always going to be something new on display from 04 and 05 plates through to older, more select models and from sporty coupes to people carriers and 4x4s.
“However, it is not just local people who seek out our cars. Through the website, which we recently updated, we have buyers contact us from throughout the UK through to Ireland, Cyprus and beyond. We have just sold a 1976 Vauxhall Viva to Scotland – with one owner from new it has only done 26,000 miles and it has just driven the 400 miles north of the border.
“We also occasionally import cars, too, and recently brought in two original Mini Coopers from Japan and they sold to the first two people to see them.
“I think that sums up what we do; we understand what motorists want and therefore buy the cars that we know will be popular and sell. It means that people are rarely disappointed when they come to browse and are often delighted that we have the car they were looking for.
“Of course, we will always have ‘Death Row’ – we might be moving upmarket all the time, but we recognise that there will always be a demand for these inexpensive cars where you buy as seen. People know what to expect and they know what they are getting, but it is not unusual for me to see these cars still driving around town years after we sold them.”
The company has also introduced a new lorry this month that will help it deliver and collect even more cars.
There has been a garage on the site where Taylor’s of Newbury is located since the 1930s, although it is perhaps busier now than ever before and certainly 2007 was the company’s most successful yet, although early signs are 2008 could break all records.
