Business Profile

“THEY were queuing right down the stairs on Saturday,” explained Graeme Leech of Regent Lettings as he explained the resurgence in the rental property market this year.
Speaking from the leading rental company’s offices within Cricketts estate agents in Cheap Street, Newbury, he explained: “For a variety of reasons we are seeing an increase in tenants seeking accommodation and that has encouraged investors to step back into the market to meet this growing demand.
“We help both landlord and tenant, although here at Regent Lettings we much prefer the terms ‘customers’ and ‘clients’; our customers rent homes from our clients; ‘tenants’ has this stigma where you think they don’t care about the property, and ‘landlords’ are Rachman-like figures. Neither could be further from the truth, hence ‘customers’ and ‘clients’.
“Regent Lettings has grown rapidly over the past two years; we have worked hard to ensure we have the right foundations to support the current growth.”
The combination of excellent customer service and first rate advice, borne of almost 30 years in the property rental market, has allowed Graeme Leech to build Regent Lettings into one of the foremost rental agencies in West Berkshire since it was established in 2007.
The business has continued to grow, and in October, Matthew Carter-Bennett joined the team as property manager, and the company is also taking on a growing number of residential block management clients.
Personal referrals have always driven business to Regent Lettings and talking to some of the satisfied clients who use the company it is easy to understand why. One happy client is Newbury businesswoman Joanne Harvey, who had always dealt with letting her own property, before asking Regent Lettings to handle the lease.
She said: “I was surprised at the ease with which Regent Lettings dealt with my initial enquiry, right through to the actual placing of a tenant. It is a process I wish I had employed sooner.
“It is such a refreshing change to hand over to people who are knowledgeable, professional, fair to both landlord and tenant, and succinct when explaining legislation changes, and I am delighted to be able to recommend their services to other buy-to-let friends and colleagues.”
Another satisfied client is landlord Mark Birds, who commented: “I think the service offered by Regent Lettings is impeccable, exemplary, and superb; head and shoulders above the competition.”
However, Graeme Leech is keen to stress thar investors still needed to be careful when entering the property rental market. He explained: “Property should always be a long term investment – if you look at properties bought at any time since the war, after 15 years they are a proven investment. Many of our clients come to us for help finding the right rental property to buy, and our expertise adds value to their investment and ensures they have a property that will maximise its return.”
