MISSION Hair opened its doors to the public on May 1 last year. Director Sarah Riggott had the dream of her own salon for many years, and decided that if she could make it work in the current climate she could make a success of anything.
Starting out as a small salon with five stations which gives a very personal experience to every individual customer was a conscious decision by Sarah (name).
The salon consists of Sarah Riggott (director) who has 20 years experience and many qualifications, Melanie Tate, with 15 years experience, Harry Roberts ,who has just qualified and is still attending college and Lisa Wilkins, with five years hair experience and five years of beauty therapy experience which enables them to offer manicures or a simple fill and paint to make your colour experience that little more relaxing.
It is the personal touch that has led to Mission Hair now being very popular within the Newbury community and created a regular client base. This, combined with the footfall from being in Northbrook Street (near the clock tower), has now meant that a new station has now been built to keep up with demand.
Asked why Sarah Riggott believes that the salon has been a success in 2009, she said: “Success is looking into people and how they think, what their needs are. How you would like to be treated in the same situation? Being understanding to people’s needs and listening. Communication is what counts and what has taken us forward.”
A regular customer added: “I usually hate having my hair cut but I come Mission Hair as I feel relaxed, comfortable and laugh lots. The bonus is that I love my hair at the end of the experience.”
The salon, in its short time of being open, has been known to take risks, push forward and keep up with these fast moving times. “I think part of being able to survive and grow within this difficult period has been down to the fact that we here at Mission are fearless, and feel that you can only learn from mistakes to then make it right the second time round,” said Sarah Riggott.
An example of this is what Mission plans to do within the future. Sarah Riggott is now qualified in wig cutting and hopes to help those with wigs into making it look as natural as possible. Mission is also introducing a Brazilian keratin brand, including a new hair straightening product which does not smell, has no chemicals and is made from just natural products which conditions the hair while straightening.
After a great 2009, Sarah Riggott and the team will continue on their mission to keep their friendly, honest and high quality style salon growing.
