The VICI Language academy opened its door in November 2008 with 20 students. A year on, it counts more than 90. While it started with nine members of staff, it now employs 16. In a troubled and unsettled economy, what is the secret of The VICI?
“‘People may spend less but they still invest. And that is what we offer; an investment in their education. It is especially true for children. Parents understand today more than ever than in difficult times, candidates with greater education will succeed and there are strong evidence today that speaking a foreign language will open doors to any individuals,” said Nathalie Danon-Kerr, the director of The VICI.
The environment the students learn in is also very professional. The VICI has its own dedicated premises at 116 Bartholomew Street, Newbury.
Having acquired an extensive experience teaching in schools, colleges and homes, Nathalie Danon-Kerr explained why the idea of premises fully dedicated to language learning is the key.
“Without an immersion, language learning is just an activity; for us, it is an education; our students are more motivated as they feel valued and comfortable in a supportive environment.”
But most importantly, what makes The VICI Language Academy a great success is its staff. The qualified and native tutors foster emotional and intellectual development:  imagination, reasoning, listening, creativity, socialising.
“The atmosphere is always friendly and the staffs are only too pleased to make our visits as comfortable and enjoyable as they can,”   said Mrs Sturt from Whitchurch.
Marina Trestchenkoff, the head of languages, said: ‘Our responsibility is to make sure that each time our students come to class; they are presented with a challenge, where if they do their best, they will be successful.”
Interviewed about her studies at the VICI, Aileen Cannock from Newbury, confirmeds why the academy is such a success: “Since I left school I have had a desire to speak French.  I attempted several evening class courses but all to no avail – too boring.  Then I discovered The Vici Language Academy.  At long last, I am learning to speak this wonderful language and having a wonderful time doing so.”
Anyone will agree that a strong team is of the essence when working on building a successful business.  Veronica Brocchin joined the academy six months ago as an Italian tutor. She said:  “Nathalie runs her academy very efficiently and it has been very easy for me to adapt and find resources I can use with my students. Moreover, the friendly atmosphere provided by the staff at the academy helped me to feel welcome and at ease.”
The VICI is also very versatile in the services it offers. Not only can you learn nine foreign languages at the academy including French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Russian, Japanese, Chinese and English but the academy also has tutors specialised in delivering language courses to local businesses.
“Once again, with the economy as it is, an increasing number of small to medium companiss choose to equip their employees with strong language skills,” explained Nathalie Danon-Kerr. “‘Having in-house tutors allows us to offer very competitive rates.”
VICI also organises FREE language days in local schools and provides consultancy and training to primary schools looking to provide modern foreign languages to their pupils.
