Halletts Estate Agents: Long-lived estate agency still building on its top reputation
13th March 2008
AT a time when some estate agents are catching a cold, Halletts, with branches in Newbury and Thatcham, is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
It was just last year that the company launched a Newbury branch at the prestigious Clarendon House in London Road. The move further enhanced the service delivered to clients of the Thatcham office, according to principal and founder Graham Hallett (pictured), whose extensive local knowledge is built on a lifetime in the area.
With an enviable reputation and clientele based largely on repeated business and referrals, Graham is justifiably proud of his proactive, service-driven agency. It is an attitude that guarantees clients peace of mind that they will be kept informed as their home is sold.
Brought up and educated locally, Graham had a weekend and evening job as a teenager was with an estate agency. He became intrigued with the notion of selling houses as a child, when his parents moved, and recalls an early memory of holding the end of a measuring tape for a viewing estate agent.
On leaving school, he joined one of the country’s largest corporate agencies, experiencing the faster-moving market of the Reading area before launching Halletts in Thatcham in 1987.
Any homeowner from that time will recall the marketplace. In Thatcham there were 16 other estate agencies already operating.
Graham explained: “I entered a cut-throat, competitive business at a time when the area boasted very little development and a low volume of houses to sell. However, since then Thatcham has quadrupled in size and yet the number of surviving estate agents is just five.”
Graham believes that it is the experience of his hand-picked staff that is central to his longstanding success. His dynamic, 12-strong sales progression team do not operate by segregating their work: dedicated individuals are in the driving seat from viewing to handing over keys and as such are able to cultivate strong client relationships.
Halletts’ administration is web-based, but the agency’s website is deliberately user-friendly and the internet facility is not allowed to detract from the personal touch.
Halletts’ first-rate back-up from an independent financial advisor and its high-quality market service includes eye-catching colour details with floor plans, extensive internet and newspaper advertising and a competitive fee structure.
There is easy parking at both of the estate agent’s Newbury and Thatcham offices. Clarendon House, where you are invited to sample the unspoilt period office is located at 44 London Road, Newbury, RG14 1LA. The Crown is situated at 16 High Street, Thatcham, RG19 3JD.
