Square Mile Connections - Clients put recruitment specialists on world stage

Square Mile Connections could soon be spanning the globe with its specialist approach to finding the right staff for banking, legal and accountancy businesses, attracting clients far beyond Newbury and London.
Fresh back from the Middle East, company founder and managing director Mia Drennan explained: “We have recently been mandated on our first appointments in Dubai and are working with new clients in Hong Kong, Mauritius and a particularly important client in New York.
“I have just been to New York for meetings with clients there.
“We had a very successful 2007 and already in these first few months of 2008 we have achieved really great success with developing international opportunities.
“We offer more than the highest quality search and selection services; we also can offer comprehensive human resources support, too. Our service is not just about recruitment but ensuring our clients have up-to-date employment law and access to human resource advice should they need it.”
While clients are taking Square Mile overseas, the company still has its roots firmly in Newbury , based in Kings Road West, and has developed a respectable network of local clients, too.
Mia explained: “It is true that much of our work has been working with clients in London, which is what we expected, however we have picked up a number of local businesses in our core offering of banking, accountancy and legal.
“We have placed staff for these clients and in turn they are referring new local clients to us.”
Recruitment director Nicola Ogston added: “It is worth stressing how unusual it is for people to approach recruitment companies – more the other way round – but we are seeing more and more companies approaching us.
“It is a challenging time for the industry, particularly here in Newbury. It is particularly interesting as a number of providers have left the town over recent months. It says so much about our attitude towards recruitment that we have been able to grow in this way.”
Mia agreed, saying: “It would be foolish to think this year is not going to be challenging, but we spent a long time last year deciding which way to move forward to achieve our business plans.
“Our business is about people and we are focusing not just here in Newbury and in London, but around the world.
“There is a consistency in the calibre of many of the people we place and the nature of the positions we fill that is transferable around the world and will keep our services in demand.
“We are now into our third year and we are flourishing because we have planned ahead and diversified.
“We want to provide our clients – wherever their location – with the same great service we have developed credibility for.”
